HPX 1.4.1 Released!

The STE||AR Group is proud to announce the release of HPX 1.4.1. This is mostly a bug-fix release! This release fixes problems found in the previous HPX V1.4.0. Among other things it fixes:

  • Compilation issues on various platforms and compilers
  • MPI finalization if HPX has not initialized MPI
  • A few CMake configuration problems
  • Installation of pdb files on Windows

Announcing HPX’s Season of Docs

HPX was recently selected to be part of Google’s Season of Docs (GSoD), a program designed to improve the documentation of open source software. While the STE||AR Group has created extensive documentation for HPX, this documentation has been written by several different people, which has led to some inconsistencies and awkward organization. I am a technical writer and English PhD student who has been selected to edit and streamline HPX’s documentation. My goal is to clean up the content, concentrating on both grammatical issues and design concerns, to create a more cohesive, user-friendly product. My primary focus will be on two sections of the STE||AR Group’s instruction manual: “HPX Build System” and “Launching and Configuring HPX Applications.” If time allows, I will also revise the “Why HPX” page, with an emphasis on condensing and trimming repetitive content.

HPX 1.1.0 Released!

The STE||AR Group is proud to announce the release of HPX 1.1.0, 10 years after the first commit! This release contains 2300 commits since the previous release and has closed over 150 issues. HPX 1.1.0 brings users full control over how HPX uses processing units, improvements to parallel algorithms and many other usability improvements. This release would not have been possible without the help of all the people who have contributed bug reports, questions, testing, code and improvements to the documentation. Thank you!

Using HPX on Windows

HPX is a C++ Standard Library for Parallelism and Concurrency. Building and using it on Windows just got much less involved. We have now integrated HPX into the VcPkg VC++ Packaging Tool. This tool is design to help you getting C and C++ libraries built and installed on Windows without hassle. It manages all package dependencies for you, such that — once HPX has been built — no additional settings have to be supplied to your build environment.
